Tirumular’s Navaakiri Chakra Sadhana: The Siddha Path to Divine Awakening
Second-Level Initiation of Śrī Vidyā Tantra

NAVAAKIRI CHAKRA SADHANA
Ancient Tamil Siddha’s Tradition
The Navaakiri Mantra Diksha (நவாகிரிமந்திர தீட்சை) is a mystical initiation within Tirumular’s Siddha tradition, as detailed in the Tirumantiram. This is a Tamil Siddha practice based on Shiva-Shakti worship (Sri Vidya / Vaalai Thaai Upasana), Kundalini Yoga, Vaasi Yoga, and mantric enlightenment.
The Tirumantiram, literally “Holy Incantation,” is the Naatha (Nandinatha) Sampradaya’s oldest Tamil scripture, written in the 2nd century BCE and the 4th century CE by Rishi Tirumular. It is the tenth of the twelve Tirumurai and a vast storehouse of esoteric yogic and tantric knowledge. It contains the mystical essence of Raja Yoga, Guhya Yoga and Siddha Yoga, and the fundamental doctrines of the 28 Saiva Siddhanta Agamas.
In the ancient Tamil Siddha tradition, the great sage Tirumular revealed one of the most profound spiritual sciences—Navaakiri Chakra Sadhana. This esoteric practice, detailed in the Tirumantiram, unlocks nine divine energies (Navaakiri Shakti) that lead to self-realization, divine power (Siddhi), and ultimate liberation (Mukti).
Unlike mainstream Kundalini Yoga, which focuses on seven chakras, Tirumular’s system introduces a nine energy centers (Navaakiri Chakra), located within our physical and astral bodies. This blog explores:
♦️ What is the meaning of Tirumular’s Navaakiri?
️ Tirumular’s Navaakiri, or Navakshari mantra, is a powerful 51-syllable Shiva mantra described in his text, the Tirumantiram. It is a complex spiritual formula used in the Siddha tradition to balance the body, mind, and energy, with the ultimate goal of achieving a higher state of consciousness.
️ The nine divine energies of Shiva are referred to as “Nava” (Nine) + “Aakiri” (Nine Radiant Power or Nine Energies of the Nine Seeds). These are transformative (not destructive) forces that purify the soul and lead to Jnana (wisdom) and Mukti (liberation). Not a weapon or occult practice—it is a path of divine grace (Arul).
